In this final episode of 2016 we're going back to the groove yard of forgotten favorites to look back at the guests, the segments, the interviews and the fun that we've had in the past year.  It's a trip down memory lane as we replay the very first segments from each of our contributors, bits from our favorite guests, never-before released audio from our favorite interviews.

The power of imagination is an amazing gift. If you've ever marveled at your kids as they engage in make-believe or set aside toys to play in the boxes the toys came in, you know what I mean.  Maybe you think that kind of imagination is child's-play.  It's not. Put the power of imagination to use to visualize dynamic critical events and enhance your self-defense training.

That thought or that feeling that it's safe to leave the house without your gun because you live in a safe neighborhood or your're just making a quick trip to the store.  You don't need the knife, the flashlight, the spare mag, the gun today. It's too much stuff. You don't feel like messing with it.  That's "gunplacency."

With all that's going on, with all the stress of our day-to-day lives, it's easy to lose sight of what we should be thankful for, and to whom we should be giving thanks.

Nov 21, 2016

In a special episode of Armed Lutheran Radio we wrap up the 2016 International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) season with a round-table of shooters. We look back at our favorite (and least favorite) matches and stages and share some funny stories.  We'll look forward to 2017 and talk about rules changes and why each of us competes in IDPA (and why you should, too).

*Note: this round-table was recorded prior to the release of the new 2017 IDPA rules. I decided to leave that segment in the show because the opinions expressed are still important, especially now that we know what the rules changes entail.

Guests - Our own Sgt. Bill Silvia, IDPA Social Media Coordinator Mandy Bachman, Margo Stevens-Ray, Ben Bolden, TJ Kane, Scott Longhorn, and Sam Williams.

Special Guest: Pr. Ralph Abernethy III - So-called "gun free" zones are really just target-rich environments for killers. We all know that. But as a Christian, how should we regard these places and should we respect them? Pastor Abernethy helps us answer these questions.

Ballistic Minute - In this week's Ballistic Minute tip, Sgt. Bill talks about the tools he takes to the range for his practice sessions.

Fundamentals of Defense - Aaron Israel's self-defense tip is about how to teach your kids to stand up for themselves from an early age.

Jesus Hates Guns. At least that’s what one author at Patheos.com thinks. He quotes his own book as proof of his assertion, but not Holy Scripture. Pastor John Bennett and I dissect his claims and debunk them thoroughly. Sgt. Bill teaches us how to use cover properly in IDPA. Aaron Israel talks about all the creepy clown sighting. And John Correia of Active Self Protection visits with us to talk about the Bullets and Bibles Conference coming up on October 14.

UPDATE: For those experiencing audio problems with their download, please click the "Download this Episode" link below and download the newest release of this episode which corrects these technical issues.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

Special Guest - John Correia, the founder and owner of Active Self Protection (ASP) in Phoenix, Arizona, joins us to talk about the upcoming Bullets and Bibles Conference.

Ballistic Minute - Sgt. Bill teaches the basic techniques for using cover properly in IDPA.

Fundamentals of Defense - Don’t be a clown. Aaron Israel discusses the widespread urban legend of the creepy clown and how we shouldn’t succumb to irrational fear about the unlikely event that clowns attack.

Mia's Motivations - Mia is on the road and will be back with us next week.

Clinging to God and Guns - Pastor Bennett and I dissect an article by a man who uses his own book, but not the Bible, to support his claim that Jesus hates guns.

Oct 3, 2016

This Week on Armed Lutheran Radio, author Greg Hopkins joins us to discuss his book "A Time to Kill: The Myth of Christian Pacifism."  Sgt. Bill discusses the purpose of IDPA.  Aaron Israel has tips for surviving a riot if you're surrounded while in your vehicle. And Mia Anstine is back from another adventure, with a review of the newly re-designed Remington R51.

Special Guest: Greg Hopkins - The author of "A Time to Kill: The Myth of Christian Pacifism" joins us to discuss his book, and the origins of the pervasive myth that Christians should embrace pacifism.

Ballistic Minute - Sgt. Bill talks about the purpose of IDPA -- is it competition or concealed carry?  Or Both?

Fundamentals of Defense - After watching the riots in Charlotte, North Carolina, a couple of weeks ago, and seeing the civilian vehicles trapped by the crowds, Aaron Israel discusses ways to stay safe if you find yourself in the same situation.

Mia's Motivations - Mia Anstine is off on another adventure!  This time to West Virginia with Remington Arms to see some of their new products and to get some trigger time with the re-designed R51 pistol.

In this week's meditation I share my thoughts on football, race, and the National Anthem controversy plaguing the NFL.

Sep 26, 2016

In this week's episode we take a look at the follow-up to last week's article "Why Bible-Believing Christians Have No Right to Self-Defense."  Part two focuses on defense of life and family, and if you thought it couldn't get worse, you were wrong.  Mia is back from Europe to tell us about her adventures, and we get tips from Aaron Israel and Sgt. Bill Silvia.

Mia's Motivations - Mia is back from a whirlwind trip to Europe where she got to tour the Sako firearms and ammunition plants in Finland and to hunt brown bear in Russia.

Fundamental Defense - Competition and defensive training are not mutually exclusive. Aaron explains how both can a great benefit to your skill as a defensive shooter.

Ballistic Minute - Sgt. Bill discusses the various ways you can carry spare ammo in competition, and explains the relative pros and cons of each.

Clinging to God and Guns - Pastor John Bennett and I debunk the second part of last week's article which suggests (wrongly) that Christians have no right to self-defense. In today's article, the author discusses defense of life and family, and comes to the same conclusion thanks to his own political bias and willful ignorance of the context of the Bible passages he quotes.

Sep 22, 2016

In this week's meditation, Lloyd considers a question he heard several times over the past couple of weeks: what does it matter, as long as you are a Christian?

Sep 19, 2016

On this week's episode we discuss the goofy gnostic musings of a gay Presbyterian who thinks that Bible-believing Christians have no right to defend their lives, homes, or property.  A look at my violent allergy to jazz hands, and great tips from Sgt. Bill, Aaron, and Mia.

Mia's Motivations - Mia Anstine has advice for how to choose your next training course by evaluating what you hope to accomplish and what you want to learn.

Fundamental Defense - Aaron Israel's weekly self-defense tip is about learning to be a better problem-solver. The gun is a specific solution to a tiny subset of problems that we might face. Many of those problems can solved before the gun ever needs to come into play if you learn to avoid trouble, de-escalate, and learn from the mistakes of others.

Ballistic Minute - Sgt. Bill warns against becoming the "Gamer Guy," a type of shooter you've probably seen on the range and you should take pains to avoid emulating.

Clinging to God and Guns - Pastor John Bennett helps us debunk an article written by a gay Presbyterian at Patheos.com, who argues that the Bible can't be taken literally, but those who do should not own guns because we are spiritual being having a physical experience and the Bible warns us that possessions are not important, certainly not important enough to kill over. Or something.

This week we look back at the third annual Battle-N-Benton IDPA Championship and the road I took to get there. It's all about change, accepting your weaknesses, and working to improve.

Congratulations to Sgt. Bill Silvia for winning High Law Enforcement at this year's match!

Pastor John Bennett returns so you get full-strength, unadulterated Armed Lutheran Radio this week. You'll hear about layers, pro-gun bumper stickers, shooting on the move, teaching our kids about guns, and how a pastor in the Wisconsin Synod thinks that if you have guns, criminals will want them too.

Fundamental Defense - Aaron Israel discusses the safety concerns and possible legal ramifications of pro-gun bumper stickers.

Ballistic Minute - Sgt. Bill has tips for learning to shoot on the move.

Mia's Motivations - Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. And so will you as the weather gets colder. Mia Anstine discusses the need to practice concealed carry in your cold weather clothing.

Clinging to God and Guns - Pastor John Bennett is back to help us debunk an article by a WELS pastor, written in the wake of the WDBJ shooting.

With the advent of the 24-hour news cycle and social media, our kids are exposed to news about mankind's horrific acts of evil more often than ever.  From ISIS to cop killings in Dallas, to home-grown acts of terror like Orlando or 9/11, or school shootings like Newtown.  We can't totally shelter our kids from this information, so how do we explain these terrible acts of evil to our children? Pastor Evan Goeglein of Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue River, Oregon joins us again to discuss the subject.

Ballistic Minute - Sergeant Bill discusses the pros and cons of the two basic types of handguns you can choose from -- the all-steel classics like 1911's and CZ's versus the plastic fantastics like GLOCK and M&P.

Fundamental Defense - Aaron Israel discusses the critically important topic of teaching your kids gun safety.

Mia's Motivations - Listen up, guys, because Mia Anstine is talking about ways to get the woman in your life interested in shooting.

Today's Mid-Week Meditation is a little different. I was finished with Episode 33 of Armed Lutheran Radio when I had the honor of interviewing Paul Lathrop, founder and co-host of the Polite Society Podcast.  I decided his story, and the lessons learned from it, is so important that it deserved it's own show.  So, today I present my interview with Paul and his account of his harrowing six-month ordeal with our legal system.
