Lloyd and Pastor Bennett dig back into the mailbag to answer an email from a listener who was critical of Lloyd's commentary in episode 220.
Hey Lloyd,
As an IDPA member I've subscribed to unload and show clear for a couple years and on the recent episode I was curious about your thoughts on the "political" aspects of the coronavirus pandemic (since ULaSC is politics free).
I downloaded and listed to the most recent episode of the Armed Lutheran and was very disappointed in your take on it. Your politics section opened like the federal government's (and some states) underestimated the effect of the virus and that you seemed to condemn the lack of urgency.... and then it devolved into you advocating for not wearing masks because "the elites" will punish you, etc.
You go on to talk about the "golden age of technology" but fail to consider our best health professionals are part of that "golden age". Their recommendations should be considered and taken seriously (politics aside).
Your take that Heaven as a consolation to death isn't a valid rationalization to ignore sound medical advice. On that same logic you might as well avoid all vaccines and modern antibiotics because you go to church and have faith. On that same train on train of though you should avoid going for your annual checkup if you've had communion this month...since your going to Heaven what does it matter if you die?
God gave us a brain for critical and rational thought and we should use it to the fullest potential ....which includes heading advice from the medical field.
I'll be unsubscribing to Unload and Show Clear because of your lack of good judgment on the current pandemic. Stay safe, wear a mask, and listen to the medical professionals.

Merciful Father, look with compassion upon our world. In the midst of fear brought about by the present epidemic, grant Your people comfort and assurance that You are in control of all things. Through this pestilence we pray that you would turn hearts toward You in repentance. We lift up to you all whose vocations place them in service to those who have been infected. Grant Your protection to our health care workers as they serve as Your hands of mercy to the afflicted. Be with all who are working tirelessly to develop a vaccine, that You would guide their work and grant them success in their efforts. Be with all who have contracted this virus, that You would comfort them in their hour of need. Safeguard us, our loved ones, and all who cry to You, that we may be defended from infection; and set our hearts at ease, that we may find in You an answer to all our fears. This we pray through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

So much has changed since Lloyd and Pastor Bennett reviewed the various government responses to COVID-19 back in episodes 212 and 213, we thought it would be a good idea to go back and re-assess based on new information and to see how those policies have changed and what harm or good they have done.

Lloyd discusses the parallels between the gun control movement and the national response to COVID-19 and the ways that numbers are manipulated to obscure the truth, and how the desire for security at all costs drives responses to both gun violence and the pandemic. At the same time it's Easter Sunday. As we huddle together in our lockdowns across the country, like the early disciples following Christ's death, let's remember this most holy of days and the promise of life everlasting that Jesus secured for us in his victory over death and the devil.
We implore you, Almighty and merciful God, cause us who celebrate Your Pascal Feast, kindled with heavenly desires, ever to thirst for the Fountain of Life, Jesus Christ; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. As the nation grinds to a halt as a result of the various government responses to the Coronavirus pandemic, Lloyd and Pastor Bennett consider how do we, as Christians evaluate the decisions made by our public officials in light of the second great commandment [Matt. 22:39]. Persecution is mentioned over 70 times in the Bible. Many anti-gun Christians argue that since the Bible calls on us to suffer persecution and to love our enemies, we should not resist the violent criminal with a firearm. If you've heard this argument but don't know how to counter it or if it sounds reasonable but you're just not sure, Lloyd and Pastor Bennett discuss the distinctions between different kinds of persecution and what makes persecution different from violent crime.
O God, our heavenly Father, seeing that of ourselves we have no strength, keep us both outwardly and inwardly that we may be defended from all adversities that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

We're getting back to our roots in today's Clinging to God & Guns show as Lloyd and Pastor Bennett dissect and debunk an article from Patheos.com. Written after the El Paso and Dayton shootings in the fall of 2019. The author contends that all gun owners have a moral obligation to support stricter gun laws and suggests that hate speech and a lack of support for gun control are valid reasons to deny a person the right to own a gun.
